The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 40, was between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium, New Chandigarh. It was another high-scoring affair in New Chandigarh as Punjab Kings suffered their first loss of IPL 2026 against Royals. RR won the match by six wickets.
RR won the toss and opted to play first as they made two changes to the team with Ravi Bishnoi and Shimron Hetmyer replaced by Dasun Shanaka and Yash Raj Punja. PBKS also made two changes, one was forced with Shashank Singh out and Xavier Bartlett coming out, when Suryansh Shedge and Lockie Ferguson came in.
IPL 2026: PBKS vs RR Match Result:
After being invited to bat first, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh once again got off to a fiery start, but the former was dismissed after a blistering innings of 29 off 10 balls, with Jofra Archer taking the wicket. However, Prabhsimran did not stop his aggressive attitude and PBKS scored 65/1 in the powerplay.
Cooper Connolly, who seemed to have good touch, scored 30 off 14 balls. Prabhsimran got his fifty off 35 balls as the Kings were on a good run, 118/2 after the end of 11 overs. The latter was dismissed with a score of 59 off 44 balls, and Yash Punja picked his second wicket.
Rajasthan’s bowlers stopped in the middle as Shreyas Iyer could not get going as he returned after scoring 30 off 27 balls. However, Marcus Stoinis’ enthralling innings, scoring 62 off 22 balls, as PBKS scored 222/4 in their 20 overs.
Going out to chase, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a good start. They scored 50 in three overs but the 5-year-old was dismissed after a thumping knock of 43 off just 16 deliveries. They scored 84/1 in the powerplay with Jaiswal hitting after Vaibhav’s wicket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 51 off 27 balls, and a solid 29 off 16 balls from the Royals captain helped them stay in the game. Later at the death, Shubham Dubey and Donovan Ferreira played some incredible knocks and took their team home, which remained unbeaten with a score of 31 off 12 balls and 52 off 26 balls.
