The Knight Riders’ home ground in the United States has created quite a stir among cricket fans around the world. Since the United States of America is considered one of the largest sports markets, the stadium will play an important role in the expansion of cricket in the nation.
It has now been confirmed that the Los Angeles Knight Riders stadium being developed in the Southern California city of Pomona, officially known as Fairplex, will be used as the official cricket ground for the 2028 Olympics. At the 2028 Olympics, cricket will mark its return to the world’s largest sporting carnival.
Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore hopeful of hosting IPL teams at home ground
Furthermore, Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore has informed that they are in talks with various governing bodies to host a couple of exhibition matches, apart from involving the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams. Hosting IPL teams for some matches is a lifelong dream for American and Canadian cricket boards.
Mysore has reported that they had a brief discussion with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about this as the Indian cricket board has concerns that they will not be able to host IPL teams in the United States. The KKR official is hoping to organize a couple of exhibition matches there, with the support of the BCCI and other cricket boards.

Talks have already started with cricket boards.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful? The challenge is always the availability of players. Once the IPL season is over, everyone’s calendars are full and they are going in different directions. But the BCCI has talked about a couple of teams that will go out and play exhibition games to grow cricket… so that is always on the agenda,” Venky Mysore, CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders, told BBC Sport.
“This is my 16th season with the IPL and we have tried every year but somehow it hasn’t happened. There is a real opportunity to take advantage of what is happening with MLC to grow the market further. When viewership increases, it has a positive effect on things like media rights. It makes a lot of sense. But first things first: we have to deliver on what we have started here,” he added.
Stadium capacity will gradually increase year by year
Construction work has already begun. In the initial stage, the capacity of the stadium will be 5,000 people. By 2027, this will increase to 8,500 and then 15,000 for the six-team T20 tournament for LA 2028.
The Knight Riders stadium will also host Major League Cricket (MLC) matches. If all goes as planned, on April 1 the Purple Brigade will play its first game in Pomona. Seven MLC matches are scheduled to be held at this venue between July 1 and 5.
To host the high-profile matches, high-end materials are used to create a modern stadium with a good quality pitch and gardens.
