PSL 2026 final will have crowds in the stadium as Mohsin Naqvi and Pakistan PM make a surprising 180-degree turn

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to allow fans to watch the Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026) final at the stadium. All matches this season have been played in empty stadiums as Pakistan is currently facing a serious fuel crisis due to the war between Iran and the United States.

The Pakistan Super League has grown bigger with eight teams this year, with Hyderabad Kingsmen and the renowned Rawalpindi team making their debut. But at the same time, much to the surprise of fans and franchise owners, the matches have been limited to just two venues: Karachi and Lahore.

The fuel crisis hits the PSL 2026 hard

And the PSL 2026 was played without fans as PCB president Mohsin Naqvi clarified that these decisions were taken after discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Home Minister, said the country is facing a fuel shortage and people have been asked to reduce travel as much as possible.

Due to this situation, the PCB felt that it would not be right to allow large crowds every day. If thousands of fans travel to stadiums regularly, it would only add more pressure on fuel use.

But all PSL teams recently called for fans to be allowed back, at least for the playoffs and final.

However, their application for the PSL 2026 playoffs was denied but the final will be attended by the crowd in Lahore. In fact, Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that fans will be able to attend the PSL 2026 on May 3 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

According to Pakistani media, the PCB chairman made this call after obtaining approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Although Pakistan is still facing a fuel crisis, the final was given special permission at the request of PSL owners and cricket officials.

PCB takes action against Mohammad Amir and Faheem Ashraf over unpleasant clash

Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir and Faheem Ashraf almost hit each other during the clash between Rawalpindi and Islamabad United. It all started when Amir threw to a slower goalkeeper. Faheem tried to hit a fancy ramp shot but made a mistake and was dismissed.

Amir celebrated very aggressively and Faheem didn’t like it at all. He immediately turned around, walked towards Amir and showed his anger. He even pointed his bat while saying a few words. Amir also reacted, and both players were face to face. However, their teammates intervened before things could get worse and the duo walked away.

Now, the PCB has punished both players. Amir and Faheem were fined 10 percent of their match fees for violating the code of conduct. The match referee, Sir Richard Richardson, confirmed the penalty and they accepted the error.

The PCB statement revealed that Amir was guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the PSL Code of Conduct, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures that disparage or may provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman following his dismissal during a match”. Furthermore, Ashraf violated Article 2.21. which refers to “discrediting the game.”
