Australian spinner Adam Zampa is eager to earn a place in the Test team after the team’s disappointing defeat against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener. Adam Zampa said he is comfortable with red-ball cricket despite having played only three first-class matches in recent years.
The Pat Cummins-led team suffered its second biggest loss in terms of runs at home. Australia lost the first match by 295 runs at Optus Stadium in Perth. Nathan Lyon failed to pick up any wickets in the first innings and secured two as the Indians played attacking shots in the second innings.
Adam Zampa has played three First Division games this decade
Zampa is not available for first-class matches due to his white-ball commitments. Throughout his career, he has taken 115 first-class wickets in 41 games at an average of 46.56. Zampa has taken 10 wickets at an impressive average of 28.7 in the three first-class matches he has played this decade.

I would like to do it and challenge myself in – Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa believes he is currently a better red-ball bowler than at any other time in his career. He expressed his desire to earn a place in Australia’s Test team for the tour of Sri Lanka. Zampa stated that his career may not end with a Test debut, but he did not want to regret not having given it his all.
“It’s something that I would like to do and that I would like to challenge myself. If I had to finish my career and it didn’t turn out that way, then that would be fine,” Zampa said.
“Maybe one day I’ll look back and feel like maybe I didn’t give it 100 per cent. I’m looking forward to playing these matches and putting my hand up for the Sri Lanka tour and looking forward to that is good.”
“It’s important that if I’m on that tour I get some mileage on my legs and that it’s not a big shock to the system like it was on Sunday,” he added.
I was looking forward to playing a lot of first-class cricket – Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa said his early years in red-ball cricket were marred by a lack of confidence and consistency, despite wanting to play badly. He stated that his confidence and ability to read the game have improved over time. Zampa added that he is yet to give his full opportunity in red-ball cricket.
“I was keen to play a lot of first-class cricket when I was young, but I probably wasn’t good enough or as confident as I am now,” Zampa said.
“I bowled a lot more bad balls than I give myself credit for. I wasn’t sure about my own reading of the game, whereas now I feel like I can read guys a lot better and have less brain fog. It’s being able to have a little more resilience on the wickets.” of the first day when you try to endure an ending.“
