Is Jasprit Bumrah injured? Irfan Pathan reveals truth amid wicketless IPL 2026 campaign

Former Indian national cricket team all-rounder Irfan Pathan has shared his bold views on Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah amid their wicketless 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign.

Irfan Pathan estimated that the main pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, is not injured; However, there are other factors that contribute to his failure to pick wickets in IPL 2026.

Jasprit Bumrah is yet to get a wicket in IPL 2026

Bumrah, 32, is a GOAT, that’s a fact. But Bumrah is a human being, that is also a fact. The current state of the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling unit looks dire, even in the presence of some top names.

Bumrah has Trent Boult as his bowling partner. The same Kiwi, with whom he caused havoc in some seasons of the Indian Premier League. Then there is Deepak Chahar, who on his day can destroy the top order of any batting unit, and then comes the man with the golden arm – Shardul Thakur.

In the spin department, MI has AM Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner, both exceptional. However, no bowler has been able to perform well in IPL 2026, prompting Bumrah to bowl in phases, where he looks to contain runs.

So far in 5 matches, Jasprit Bumrah has returned with figures of 0/35, 0/21, 0/32, 0/41 and 0/35 which are great considering the way big runs are being scored in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Jasprit Bumrah’s lack of wickets is a problem for them – Irfan Pathan

However, Irfan Pathan, speaking on his YouTube channel, stated that Bumrah going wicketless is a problem and that he needs to bowl his slower deliveries more and focus on bowling other deliveries with higher pace.

“Jasprit Bumrah’s wicketlessness is a problem for them. He hasn’t been able to bowl at a high pace and the slower ones have been short. He needs to bowl it higher.

“He doesn’t seem to be injured, but I think these two things are causing problems. He needs to bowl fuller slower and bowl more pitches at high pace,” Irfan Pathan added.

Shreyas Iyer executes the game very well – Irfan Pathan

In the same video, Irfan Pathan lavished high praise on Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer and opener Prabhsimran Singh for their dominant performances in the match against Mumbai Indians (MI). He elaborated:

“Shreyas Iyer runs the game very well when he is on the field, rotating his bowlers perfectly. We have already seen it, but when he bats, he never seems to lose control, be it the chase, the bowlers or the shot selection. When he hit that six off Bumrah with the short ball, it was as if he was waiting for Bumrah to bowl short. We couldn’t forget the four he hit last year, and he hit another incredible shot. We can see complete cruise control in his batting

“No matter how much you praise this unbeaten 80, it won’t be enough. He has shown great control and improvement. He scored 500 runs last year and looked like he was a good player who could bat aggressively. But he has shown maturity this year.

“He is targeting his bowlers and also facing the slow bowlers. He was waiting for the slower ones of Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur. He knows he can take on a bowler who doesn’t have high pace. He didn’t take on Jasprit Bumrah but he showed aggression in facing him as well.”
