Virat Kohli overlooks Chris Gayle and Suresh Raina as he picks biggest match-winner in IPL

A fun segment of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) featuring Virat Kohli has created quite a buzz among fans amid the ongoing IPL 2026. Virat Kohli was given a simple challenge and the RCB icon completed it with a perfection that went viral on social media platforms.

The task was very interesting as Kohli had to sit on the chair until he heard the name of a player who he believed had won more matches than Chris Gayle in the history of the IPL. As soon as that name came, he had to stand up. As soon as the round started, big names started arriving one after another.

The list included some of the biggest IPL stars like David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. But Kohli did not react to any of these names and remained seated as he was still not convinced.

Then came another big name. As soon as AB de Villiers’ name came up, Kohli immediately stood up and walked away without hesitation. He made it clear that the South African legend and his former RCB teammate AB de Villiers are the definitive winners in the history of the IPL.

RCB shared the clip on their social media with a caption that read: “Nothing but Virat Kohli facts. 😉❤️ Who is the biggest match winner in IPL?”

After selecting ABD, Kohli said, “I was just waiting for a name.”

This moment also showed the strong bond between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Both the players have shared many memorable partnerships for RCB over the years. In fact, they have created history along with associations spanning five centuries and even two stands spanning two centuries.

RCB’s move made AB de Villiers a true IPL legend

However, Chris Gayle remains one of the greatest performers in IPL history with almost 5000 runs. Talking about de Villiers, the Proteas legend started his IPL journey in 2008 with Delhi Daredevils, but before the 2011 season, he was released and then picked up by Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

And this move completely changed his IPL career. At RCB, AB de Villiers became one of the biggest stars in the league. Known as “Mr. 360” for his ability to hit all-field shots, he entertained fans with his unique batting style and winning knocks.

The former South African captain played 154 IPL matches and scored 5,162 runs, including 413 fours and 251 sixes. He also reached 40 half-centuries and 3 centuries. He played his last IPL season in 2021, where he managed to score more than 300 runs in 15 matches.

In just five matches, Kohli has already scored 228 runs at an average of 57 and a strike rate of 158 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He will be seen in action on April 18 when RCB takes on Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2026 game.
