Jacks RULED OUT from IPL 2026? Mumbai Indians release official update ahead of PBKS clash

Mumbai Indians would be in the hunt for a replacement opener in Rohit’s likely absence for the next few games, and Will Jacks could fit the role perfectly.

Mumbai Indians began their IPL 2026 campaign, ending a long run of bad luck spanning over 13 seasons with a win in their first match of the competition. However, they were unable to maintain their promising form as they lost three of their next games.

Mumbai, despite some splendid efforts with the bat, could not win the matches as their bowling failed on multiple occasions. MI is now at the ninth position in the points table and the Hardik Pandya-led team will have to bounce back to improve their chances in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians have announced the return of Will Jacks

Mumbai Indians have one of the most powerful batting line-ups. They have several Indian stars who have batted amazingly, while on the other hand, their overseas contingent of Ryan Rickelton, Quinton de Kock and Sherfane Rutherford is a big positive for them.

Will Jacks, the English all-rounder, was awaited by the Mumbai Indians fans. However, despite his delayed return, no updates have been given on any kind of injury to the superstar all-rounder who played a positive hand during the World Cup.

Will Jacks will be even more crucial in the starting role, while reports claim that he is on the way and will soon join the team. This will be very positive for Mumbai Indians ahead of the vital clash against Punjab Kings.

Will Jacks be used as Rohit Sharma’s replacement in MI?

The England opening batsman will be used as an opener, working as a replacement for the Mumbai Indians. MI was heavily dependent on Rohit Sharma, the veteran with over 6000 runs in the IPL for the same franchise.

Rohit Sharma suffered a tremendous hamstring injury, which left him uncertain for the upcoming matches in the competition. He could be ruled out for future matches if his scans do not assess his physical condition as well as it can.

Rohit’s unavailability is yet to be confirmed, but reports have claimed a possibility, with MI’s medical team currently evaluating Rohit, and the franchise is seeking a positive response from the medical team.

Can Rohit Sharma be used as an impact player against PBKS?

In the last season of the IPL in 2025, Rohit Sharma was largely used as an impact player, and head coach Mahela Jayawardene was questioned for the same. The MI coach had revealed that he was managing some injury issues while keeping him as an impact batsman.

This time too, Rohit’s fielding has been a concern as perhaps for the 38-year-old veteran, it is difficult to field for 20 overs apart from batting for long innings. He has a vital role to play with the bat. Therefore, he can be used as an impact player.

MI’s next matches are against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans scheduled for April 16 and 20.
