Pakistan’s senior wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is now at risk of being dropped from another format after losing his place in the T20I team. According to the Pakistani media, the national selectors will surprise fans with a major restructuring of the team.
Mohammad Rizwan has gone through a difficult phase. He has been one of the most reliable names in the middle order but recent performances have not been up to the mark. Due to which, the goalkeeper has already been expelled from the T20 setup.
Mohammad Rizwan’s Test spot at risk after sharp drop in form
Now, Rizwan is under huge pressure in Test cricket as Pakistan selectors are reportedly mulling over new options for the upcoming Test series. The main concern is his form with the bat. His recent numbers have fallen drastically, with just 262 runs at an average of over 21 in his last 12 Test innings.

The scores of his last 12 Test innings were: 19, 30, 10, 46, 29, 37, 24, 40, 19, 0, 1 and 6. During this period, the former Pakistan captain’s batting has looked uncertain, especially against the pace and disciplined bowling attacks. He has also struggled to convert starts into big scores, even with good batting pitches at home, where he was expected to dominate.
The last time he played a Test for Pakistan was in Rawalpindi against South Africa and he only managed 19 and 18; that also added more pressure. Technical issues in Rizwan’s batting have also raised concerns as rival teams have started attacking his weaknesses more effectively with the red ball.
Mohammad Rizwan’s problems continue in PSL 2026
Their struggles continue in the ongoing PSL 2026. Rizwan, who leads the new Rawalpindiz franchise, has been struggling a lot as captain and batsman. In the first five matches of the season, Rizwan has failed to score a single half-century.
In total, he has only managed 83 runs in 5 matches with an average of 16.6 and a strike rate of 110. This poor run has also affected his team’s performance. Rawalpindiz is still searching for its first win of the PSL 2026 season and is currently at the bottom of the table after losing all five matches.
Mohammad Rizwan to be dropped from Pakistan Test squad
Due to this fall, Mohammad Rizwan will now lose his Test spot in the Pakistan cricket team as well, as claimed by well-known journalist A-Rangzab Younis. He revealed that young wicketkeeper-batsman Rohail Nazir is now being considered as a possible option for the upcoming Test tour of Bangladesh.

Pakistan is all set to travel to Bangladesh for the two-match Test series in May 2026. The series will be played between May 8-20 and is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027 cycle. So, these tests have importance for both teams.
Still, Rizwan remains one of Pakistan’s most experienced Test players with over 2000 runs in the format. He has 2,399 runs at an average of 39.98 in 69 Test innings to his name. He has also taken 108 catches and taken 10 knocks in the format so far.
