Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul has been declared fit for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. As per reports from Indian Express, it is learned that the wicketkeeper-batsman will join the team in the next two days.
Reports claimed that KL Rahul has received a fitness certificate from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. But the BCCI has advised him not to keep wickets in the initial stages of the tournament and for him to play only as a specialist batsman, jeopardizing his selection for the T20 World Cup.
However, after a few games, KL Rahul can supposedly retain wickets. This is due to the precautionary measure with all international assignments around the corner. In case Rahul is unable to don the goalkeeping gloves, he may not be considered for the 2024 T20 World Cup as India would look at other available options.
A source close to Indian Express confirmed the news about the Lucknow Super Giants captain. He said that the batsman is fit and revealed that KL Rahul received injections in his quadriceps. Speaking to Indian Express, he stated:
“He is fit and will be able to join the IPL franchise in the coming days. He suffered pain in his quadriceps and also received an injection. He has gone through rehabilitation and the NCA has declared him fit. However, he has been advised not to immediately assume the role of goalkeeper.”
KL Rahul suffered a quadriceps injury during the Test series against England. During the first game of the series, he experienced pain and was then written out of the entire series. The batsman put up big yards in the NCA and he was expected to return in the second half of the series.
BCCI claimed that KL Rahul had improved his fitness by 90 per cent and said that he is under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. But then they decided to consult a specialist in England. The wicketkeeper-batsman then consulted his problem with an expert abroad.
The upcoming IPL 2024 will be extremely important for KL Rahul in the context of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He has not been in the contention for the T20Is, but a good season can earn him a place back in the team for the World Cup .
Apart from KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer also gets physical clearance
Reports also claimed that Shreyas Iyer also got fitness clearance from doctors. He suffered back pain on the last two days of the Ranji Trophy final in Mumbai and also did not take the field. There was a lot of speculation about his availability for the league.
Shreyas Iyer has reportedly been warned not to lunge too much while playing forward defense as this could aggravate his injury. The batsman recently joined Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2024.
Reports also claimed that Shreyas Iyer also visited a spine specialist in Mumbai after consulting with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. It is learned that the doctor declared him fit to play with the caution that Shreyas Iyer should be careful while stretching his leg.
IPL 2023 will start from March 22. The first match will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.
