Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) headed into the clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after a loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 28 of the Indian Premier League 2024.

LSG played an away match against the Shreyas Iyer-led team at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 14 and an overall poor performance in the match led to their defeat by 8 wickets with 26 balls remaining. They were poor with the bat as they scored 161/7 on the board and while defending the target, the LSG bowlers were unsuccessful against the dangerous Phil Salt who scored a sensational 89 runs to lead his team to a shock victory in home.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) entered the LSG clash with a brilliant victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 29th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 14 .

CSK were excellent with the bat as they scored 206/4 on the board, taking advantage of half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube. Defending the target, Chennai Super Kings had to deal with the attack of Rohit Sharma who smashed the bowlers and hit a tremendous ton. However, Rohit Sharma’s performance was surpassed by CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana as he picked up 4 crucial wickets to restrict MI to 186/6 and help his team win by 20 runs.

Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and opted to field first in the match. Speaking during the toss, KL Rahul said that the surface for the match looks good, so they wanted to know what score they were chasing. KL Rahul also spoke about LSG’s match against KKR and revealed that Shamar Joseph has been replaced by Matt Henry.

“We will bowl first. It looks like a good wicket, dew has not been a big factor. Let’s hope it remains good for 40 overs. We would like to know what we are chasing. We didn’t make any mistakes. The last match against KKR was a big defeat. Still, I know that we are halfway there. As a management group, if we panic, that is not what I like here. Every time you play it can be different. Matt Henry comes in,” KL Rahul explained.

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad at the toss said they were looking forward to bowling first in the match and revealed two changes in the line-up.

“We would have bowled first. In the last game we batted first and batted well. (Winning against MI) Good confidence booster. Going there and defending is a big boost for us. We don’t want to get complacent. We are trying to be as consistent as possible “Just a bit of luck (in their batting), unfortunate dismissal in the first two matches. It’s good to be back, everyone is confident. Deepak replaces Shardul,” Ruturaj Gaikwad said.
