Lucknow Super Giants fielding coach Jonty Rhodes has received praise from all quarters for his touching gesture towards Yash Thakur after the latter dropped a catch during the match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday (April 23).

Bowling first, LSG got off to a solid start as Matt Henry dismissed Ajinkya Rahane for just one run in the first over. The visitors could have had a second wicket in the second over themselves but Yash Thakur failed to convert Daryl Mitchell’s chance.

On the third ball of the second over, left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan bowled an angled delivery to the New Zealand batsman. Mitchell tried to cut but couldn’t make good contact with the ball. The ball flew towards the short third man after taking the outside edge of the bat. Yash Thakur, however, could not hold the catch and ended up throwing the ball over his head.

At the end of the over, when Yash Thakur was sent near the boundary rope to field, Jonty Rhodes made sure to lift his spirits with his kind gesture. When he saw Thakur walk towards the boundary, the former South Africa cricketer came out of the dugout and ran towards the fast bowler. He gave her a thumbs up and patted her on the back before walking back to the dugout.

Fortunately for Thakur and LSG, the drop did not prove costly as Mitchell failed to score much. In the sixth over, Thakur himself dismissed the right-handed batsman for 11 runs.

Talking about the game, LSG beat CSK by six wickets to complete a double over them this season. Riding on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s century and Shivam Dube’s half-century, CSK scored 210/4 in 20 overs. In response, LSG chased down the total with three balls remaining. Marcus Stoinis was the star of the show, scoring an unbeaten 124 to single-handedly propel his team to victory.
