PBKS creates history

Coming into the match, it was a high-scoring game as the Punjab Kings team chased down 265 runs and recorded the highest chase ever in the IPL and in the entire T20 history. Batting first, DC scored 264/3 in their 20 overs with KL Rahul playing an unbeaten knock of 152 runs and breaking multiple records.

However, the Kings openers laid the foundation for the 265-run chase with Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya scoring 128 runs in 6 overs. Then it was a Shreyas Iyer masterclass of 71 runs, which helped them seal the game. PBKS broke their previous record of 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in this game.

KL Rahul wins POTM despite defeat

Rahul became the first Indian batsman to score more than 150 in the IPL. The wicketkeeper also scored the fastest century of his career in the tournament. He also became only the third batsman to score over 150 runs in the cash-rich league after Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum. Despite the defeat, KL was the Player of the Match.

After winning the PTOM, KL Rahul said: “I felt very satisfied at the end of the first 20 overs. Something I have been working on for a long time behind the scenes… for now it was about doing well in the IPL. Just to step back a bit and see where the T20 game has gone.”

“But the demand today is that the first six overs are the most important. I had to sit back and see where I was. I stayed true to my game. In T20 cricket, that is the mentality I have now – that there is no time to say later.”
