Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has admitted to his team’s terrible run in the ongoing IPL season, especially their poor bowling and fielding efforts, which have led to matches getting out of hand. He just couldn’t help but appreciate the Shreyas Iyer-led team for their sheer brilliance in all three departments of the game.
Mumbai Indians started with a win in the first match of the season. They lost the second match against Mumbai Indians and then lost three more matches in the season. Mumbai, after four consecutive defeats, is now at the bottom of the table with just 2 points.
Punjab Kings, on the other hand, won their fourth match of the season and are the only unbeaten team in the competition so far. The Kings are now at the top of the table and Shreyas Iyer is once again setting an example for them.
A look at MI’s performance with bat and ball at Wankhede
Mumbai Indians did not have a very promising season with the ball, but they have had constant support from their batsmen. In the absence of Rohit Sharma in this match, South African legend Quinton de Kock returned in MI colours.
Quinton de Kock scored a century on his return to the IPL for Mumbai Indians, while Naman Dhir also backed them with a half-century. Mumbai’s batsmen, however, could only manage 195 runs in their 20 overs.
On the bowling front, Allah Ghazanfar picked two wickets early in the powerplay; however, Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh’s huge 139-run partnership helped them in the innings. They chased down the huge total with 7 wickets and 21 balls to spare.
These are some tough questions that eventually- Hardik Pandya
“To be honest, I don’t have much to say right now. I think we really need to go back to the drawing board and see where we are lacking. Is it like individuals? Is it like a group? Is it like planning? We will just figure it out and see what we can do next,” Hardik Pandya humbly accepted his team’s huge flaws.
Hardik Pandya then pointed out how the Mumbai Indians players were behind their opponents in all fields. Hardik Pandya further added, “I think we have to give them credit as well. The ball started to turn around. In the second innings, the dew came and it got a little better but having said that, they just outplayed us. They bowled better, they batted better, they fielded better, definitely and that speaks to us again.”
Hardik Pandya further added that some tough decisions need to be made, “No, I think we have to see, do we need to take some tough decisions or should we continue and hope that we change things? These are some tough questions that we will eventually have to answer, and yes, we have to take responsibility.”
MI’s irreplaceable concerns in IPL 2026
Mumbai Indians have been burdened by some major concerns. One of their biggest concerns in the IPL has been the dismal form of MI’s players, who have struggled to pick wickets in the innings. Even the great Jasprit Bumrah is wicketless after playing 5 matches in the season.
On the other hand, another irreplaceable concern in the team would be the lack of form of Hardik Pandya, who has failed to provide a promising finish at the back. On the other hand, they have also taken it for runs without being able to take wickets.
They have another big concern as even the more experienced names like Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur have failed to make a positive effect on the game. It would not be easy to shake off Mumbai’s worries.
