Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Suryakumar Yadav smashed an impressive century in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) to help his team beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) led by Pat Cummins at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, May. 6.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to invite Sunrisers Hyderabad to bat first despite knowing that they have an excellent first batting record. Hardik Pandya and Co.’s gamble paid off as the players did a great job in the match and picked up wickets at regular intervals.
Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their first wicket with a score of 56 when Abhishek Sharma departed and then lost quick wickets with SRH at 124/7 in 15.5 overs. After that, Pat Cummins got things back by playing an exceptional cameo of 35 runs off 17 balls to propel his team to a total of 173/8. Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla got three wickets each, while Anshul Kamboj and Jasprit Bumrah got one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Mumbai Indians, as usual, got off to a poor start and once again lost three wickets in the powerplay with Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir back in the hut.
Mumbai Indians found themselves in a tough situation and the loss of any additional wicket could have led to MI facing another defeat in the Indian Premier League 2024. That’s when No. 1 T20 batsman Suryakumar Yadav stepped up and showed a wonderful batting performance. .
Suryakumar Yadav played his natural attacking style of cricket and smashed the bowlers all over the park. Fans witnessed Suryakumar Yadav’s Mr.360 avatar and he stitched 143* runs with Tilak Varma in 79 balls to lead Mumbai Indians to an incredible 7-wicket victory with 16 balls remaining.
En route to winning, Suryakumar Yadav hit his sixth T20 century and smashed a six to take MI over the finish line. He smashed 102 runs off 51 balls, including 12 fours and 6 sixes.
