MS Dhoni injury update: Stephen Fleming reveals veteran batsman’s return date in IPL 2026

MS Dhoni, the legendary goalkeeper, has been missed by the Chennai Super Kings on multiple occasions this season and is finally very likely to return to the Men in Yellow ahead of their next match against the Mumbai Indians at Chepauk.

Chennai Super Kings could not maintain their winning streak in the competition as they have now lost their game against the Gujarat Titans despite the captain returning to good form with the bat. Ruturaj Gaikwad eventually scored runs but could not give his team the score it needed to intimidate the Titans.

The Chennai team has now jumped one position to the sixth position in the points table after a loss to the Gujarat Titans, who, with two points, have now moved to the fifth position in that points table.

As CSK continues to miss the services of their former captain MS Dhoni, head coach Stephen Fleming gave an update and said that the team management is waiting to hear from the veteran cricketer. Earlier, Eric Simmons had also updated that the decision would be taken entirely by Dhoni himself.

He has been part of the CSK team in the nets and has trained with them before the start of their matches against MI and SRH in Mumbai and Hyderabad. However, he has not appeared in any of the games.

Despite a long training session, Dhoni’s fitness may have taken a hit, so he decided to stay in the team hotel and did not make it to the CSK bench, as has been the case for most of the season for the Super Kings.

Stephen Fleming updates on MS Dhoni’s return to CSK

When asked for an update on Dhoni’s condition, Fleming said Dhoni is progressing well. “The calf is difficult. If it comes unstuck and tears the calf again, then it will go away. So we pushed it early.”

“In a warm-up match, he tweaked it again, I understand. And since then, he’s been working hard to get some movement. But there was a setback. So it’s taken longer than we thought,” he said.

The CSK coach added: “But look, he is the one in this case. And he is working hard with the physiotherapist and doing all the rehabilitation. Actually, we are just waiting for the word. But the only thing I can keep saying is stop taking this lightly. He is progressing and doing everything.”

Urvil Patel fails to return to CSK playing XI

It was revealed that Chennai Super Kings veteran MS Dhoni is not willing to force himself into the mix after finding that the youngsters were getting some form in this edition of the competition.

However, seeing Kartik Sharma’s poor form despite repeated opportunities for the youngster and the recent struggles for them in the middle order, with Sarfaraz Khan losing form in recent games and Urvil Patel also missing his first outing, Dhoni might be more needed to get back into the mix.
