TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 33, will be the heavyweight clash of the two most successful franchises of the tournament. It will be Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ahead of ‘Classic’ cricket, MI has shared an update on their former captain Rohit Sharma’s injury.
Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The former India captain had to retire injured in the game and never returned to bat. Rohit did not feature in the five-time winners’ last two matches, and they played Denmark’s Malewar in the last match against the Gujarat Titans.
MI provides update on Rohit Sharma injury
Ahead of the big clash, MI spokesperson shared an update on Rohit Sharma and his injury status. Rohit was seen tying his injured leg and hitting the nets a few days ago. Today he was seen playing with his children before the Mumbai practice.
MI spokesperson said: “Rohit Sharma is still being assessed. The decision on whether he will play or not will be taken tomorrow at 7 pm in the toss.” Rohit Sharma had a brilliant start to the IPL campaign, scoring fifty in his first game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Rohit is the franchise’s third-highest run-scorer despite playing four matches in the season. He will try to come back in the next match and score a big goal against CSK at Wankhede.
I always love batting at No. 3-Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma was present during the pre-match press conference and said, “Rohit bhai told me, ‘Tu 15 balls khel le, uske baad humein pata hai tu kya Kar sakta hai (play 15 balls, we know what you can do after that!).” Tilak Varma scored a century in the last game, after scoring 43 runs in 5 matches.
When asked about his favorite batting position, Tilak said: “I always love to bat third. But I am ready to bat at any position in the team.” The way Tilak is improving will be a good sign for the five-time winners as they have to win all the matches to qualify for the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians have finally found their groove
Mumbai Indians are currently at sixth place in the points table after their huge 99-run win against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last game saw them take a good jump in their net run rate which turned positive. MI have struggled in the middle order with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya yet to find runs.
Mumbai will look to maintain their winning momentum against arch-rivals CSK and win the game. If MI misses out on qualifying for the next round, it will be very difficult and Pandya will be under huge pressure as if MI fails, this will be the second time in three years that they will fail to qualify with him.
