THE LOWDOWN
MUMBAI INDIANS
- Mumbai Indians have been historically slow starters in the IPL for many years and that hasn’t changed in 2024, having lost both of their first two fixtures against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
- The Mumbai bowlers were taken to the cleaners by SRH, who inflicted upon the five-time champions the highest score batting first in IPL history of 277/3, although Mumbai deserve credit for making a good fist of the run chase, scoring 246/5 in response.
RAJASTHAN ROYALS
- Chennai Super Kings’ defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals this past weekend means that Rajasthan Royals are now one of just two teams still yet to be beaten in the 2024 IPL after at least two games played.
- Both of Rajasthan’s victories so far have come at home in Jaipur, with them backing up their 20-run win over Lucknow Super Giants by recording a closer 12-run triumph over Delhi Capitals last Thursday.
THE PREDICTION
Mumbai Indians’ bowlers certainly have a point to prove after they were demolished by a ruthless SRH top order. Expect a much better showing in their first match of the season at the famous Wankhede Stadium. Speaking of ruthless though, Rajasthan Royals are proving to be just that as an all-round package. They are combining strong batting with excellent bowling and possess the weapons that should see them adapt to whatever condition the pitch is in. With Mumbai Indians not quite clicking yet under Hardik Pandya, back Rajasthan to topple them.
