The Bangladesh national cricket team will host the Pakistan national cricket team for a two-match test series. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad last night, with Najmul Hossain Shanto leading the squad for the 2025-2027 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Previously, Bangladesh won a Test series against Pakistan last year in Pakistan, creating a record.
However, before the first Test match, there was an injury problem with the team captain, who suffered a hamstring injury during the third ODI against New Zealand in Chattogram. Najmul Hossain Shanto suffered the injury while completing a century, his first in over two years, and then opted to rest after sustaining the injury.
He (Najmul Hossain Shanto) will come tomorrow – Debashish Chowdhury
According to Cricbuzz reports, Najmul Hossain Shanto is believed to be available for the first Test, scheduled for May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Despite the injury, Najumul Hossain Shanto visited the practice session and spoke to the test players who were being trained by Sohel Islam.
“He [the injury] “It didn’t seem that bad to me,” BCB chief doctor Debashish Chowdhury told Cricbuzz on Monday. “He (Najmul Hossain Shanto) will come tomorrow (Tuesday) and we will see him. And from what I have heard and the information I have received, it did not seem that bad to me,” he said.
“He doesn’t feel pain right now and he doesn’t feel pain when walking. We will still physically examine him tomorrow,” he added.
We have done very well – Habibul Bashar
Earlier, chief selector Habibul Bashar hinted at a change in intention to play Test cricket for Bangladesh in the coming years. Since they would adopt an offensive approach in the future. It will be interesting to see if this change helps the Bangla Tigers in the future as many teams have failed to win with this approach.
“This series that we are going to play is part of our Test Championship. Of course, so far we cannot proudly say that we have done very well in the Test Championship. Our plan is to perform well in this Test Championship. We did not do very well before, so we want to go a little further from there,” Bashar said at a press conference along with fellow selector Naeem Hasan in Chattogram.
We could play cricket in a different way: Habibul Bashar
“To do that, we could play cricket in a different way. We could move towards a more attacking style of cricket. You’ve seen we have picked a new opener; that’s part of the plan. Our bowling side is fine. We have the ability to take 20 wickets.”
“If we can be consistent in batting, Bangladesh will do well in the Test Championship. The style might change a little bit. I am not saying Bazball, but the style might change,” he added.
