A batting disaster for Gujarat Titans (GT) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Ahmedabad. Washington Sundar was playing an anchoring role in the middle and looked promising to put up a meaningful fight against the visiting team.
Mitchell Santner didn’t let him do that. Washington Sundar’s innings came to a halt after scoring 26 runs off 17 balls. In his innings, the middle-order batsman hit the opposing bowlers for five 4s. This is not the first time that New Zealand player Mitchell Santner has taken over the role of the Indian all-rounder. Naman Dhir made an excellent catch to complete the wicket-taking action.

The delivery was not good enough to take the well-placed batting wicket. Naman Dhir’s timely leap near the boundary rope in the Deep forced Sundar to leave the field.

Mumbai Indians bowler restricted GT to just 45 runs in the powerplay
From the start of the second innings, the Gujarat Titans batsmen were under pressure against the Mumbai Indians bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah opened his account in IPL 2026 by taking the wicket of GT Sai Sudharshan. On the first ball of the first over of the second innings, Bumrah secured the scalp.
In the powerplay, MI got three wickets and GT managed only 45 runs. Soon after Sudharshan’s departure, Gujarat Titans’ in-form batsman Jos Buttler and captain Shubman Gill also lost their wickets cheaply.
Impact player Ashwani Kumar and young debutant Krish Bhagat also did good work in their respective spells. Kumar sacked Shubman Gill. MI captain Hardik Pandya took the wicket of Jos Buttler.
Naman Dhir had a good day at the office
Apart from taking a magnificent catch near the boundary line, Naman Dhir also performed well in his batting duties. When the Mumbai Indians top order was struggling against the GT bowlers, Dhir was the first batsman to surrender during the crucial moments of the game, followed by a superb century from Tilak Varma. Naman scored 45 runs as MI’s number three batsman off 32 deliveries. His innings were made up of six 4s and one 6.
Batting first, Mumbai Indians, the visiting team for the contest at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, posted 199 runs in 20 overs in return for 5 wickets. Most of the runs were achieved throughout the century thanks to the timely knocks of Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir.
