Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Nitish Rana brutally attacked Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins after his team defeated the Orange Army in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (May 26).
Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. It was pure dominance from the Shreyas Iyer-led team as they defeated the Pat Cummins-led team by 8 wickets to claim their third title, having won earlier from 2012 and 2014 with Gautam Gambhir.
Pat Cummins, who has barely made a mistake as team captain in recent months, looked clueless as he had no answers to the Kolkata Knight Riders’ counter-attacks. Sunrisers Hyderabad were torrid with both bat and ball and lost the final by a huge margin.
Sunrisers Hyderabad opted to bat first and it looked like it would be another dominant performance from them. However, Mitchell Starc’s class was too much to handle as the left-arm pacer removed Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi, while Vaibhav Arora removed Travis Head for a duck.
However, after that, nothing stood in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s way as Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers were all over them. Aiden Markram (20) and Pat Cummins (24) were the top scorers, which speaks volumes for their poor batting performance when they went all out.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, Andre Russell was the pick of the players with his figures of 3/19. Apart from him, Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana contributed two wickets each. Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine claimed one wicket as they bundled SRH for 113 runs.
With the bat, it was another dominant show from the Kolkata Knight Riders. Venkatesh Iyer (52*) scored a vital half-century with the bat and took his team home. They chased down the target in just 11 overs and won their third game over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the season.
