In the 47th match, Mumbai Indians (MI) host Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The match was between the bottom two teams of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The match was a virtual life and death battle for both sides. After tonight’s defeat, LSG’s classification becomes practically zero, although not mathematically immediately.

Both teams made some changes. Rohit Sharma, Raj Bawa, Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar came into the Mumbai Indians team as Hardik Pandya was unwell, Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the team. The Super Giants made two changes, Akshat Raghuwanshi and Josh Inglis came into the team. SKY won the toss and chose to play first.

Nicholas Pooran returns to form

After being put in to bat first, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis got off to a good start but the latter returned scoring 13 off 5 balls. Nicholas Pooran and Marsh then went all out on the MI players, with LSG scoring 90/1 in the powerplay. Then the players dropped a little from 123/1, LSG dropped to 160/5.

Pooran played a sensational knock of 63 runs off 21 balls, and Marsh scored 44 runs off 25 balls; They formed a 93-run partnership for the second wicket. But after that, the flurry of wickets stopped the runs, and LSG could only manage a score of 228/5 in the 20 overs, with Aiden Markram and Himmat Singh scoring unbeaten 31 and 40 respectively.

Rohit and Rickelton win for MI

While chasing, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton got off to a cheerful start, scoring 71 in the powerplay. They formed a 143-race partnership and laid the foundation for the five-time winners’ quest. Rickelton and Rohit missed out on their well-deserved hundreds as they were dismissed for 83 and 84 runs respectively.

Naman Dhir and Suryakumar Yadav kept the runs flowing as the former went unbeaten with a score of 23* runs and Will Jacks MI’s finishing touch kept their playoff hopes alive after this win.

One of Mumbai’s greatest: Ryan Rickelton on opening with Rohit Sharma

Ryan Rickelton praises Rohit Sharma and shares his experience opening alongside the former India captain. Ryan Rickelton also hailed Rohit as India’s greatest batsman of all time after the former won the Man of the Match.

Ryan Rickelton said: “(On the association with Rohit) One of the best in Mumbai, one of the best in India. I really enjoy spending time there. We are lucky to have wickets here. The Wankhede has been really good.”

“And we’ve been able to fit in quite well and put pressure on players at the right moments and help each other along the way. Rahul Sanghvi was telling me that my game suits this terrain. I come from Johannesburg at the Wanderers, where you are getting a very similar pace and bounce.”

Ryan Rickelton further added, “I didn’t believe it when he told me what this shot would be like for me. But yeah, I really enjoy it. It’s got good rhythm, so you get great value on shots. And the ball really flies here. So I adapted my game at our headquarters. I’m always looking to improve, especially when we travel.”

“The IPL is ridiculous the way these chases are run nowadays. Like Surya said, I heard him say, if you get off to a good start, you just set the platform. And I think that’s the trend with this team,” concluded Ryan Rickelton.
