Batting great Sunil Gavaskar has named his favorite cricketers from the Pakistan cricket team. Of the current generation, he has named Babar Azam as the player he most likes to watch bat.

From the past generation, Sunil Gavaskar named Zaheer Abbas, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram as his favorite players. The quartet of Abbas, Imran, Miandad and Akram was one of the threatening forces for Pakistan in the 1990s.

They were one of the main reasons for Pakistan’s success during that time. Zaheer Abbas, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram ended their careers as greats of the game. They played a key role in the team’s World Cup triumph in 1992.

Babar Azam, on the other hand, is the current great player of the Pakistan cricket team. In a short time he has become the backbone of the team and has achieved a lot. With the way he is going, it won’t be a surprise if he ends up as Pakistan’s best batsman.

Look here:

Babar Azam is currently part of Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing Test series against Australia. The batsman has not had the best touch in the series and has managed only 126 runs in 6 innings in the series at a disappointing average of just 21.

Since the last few months, Babar Azam has not found his touch. He has consistently failed with the bat, which is one of the main reasons why Pakistan has struggled to get going in the last few crucial matches. However, with the type of hitter he is, it is fair to say that he can get through this phase early.

Planning must start now: Sunil Gavaskar to tour India and Australia

Sunil Gavaskar recently shared valuable tips for the Indian team. He feels that the Rohit Sharma-led side should begin preparations for the Australia tour from now on. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:

“The loss in Centurion is more or less a pattern for Indian teams traveling through the SENA countries, where they lose the first Test of the series and then play catch-up for the rest of the series. The next big overseas series in Australia is exactly a year away and if India need to maintain the winning momentum of the previous two tours there, then planning must start now. The FTP suggests that India will play two Tests against Bangladesh and three Tests against New Zealand at home from late September to early November.”

Sunil Gavaskar further added that India should take the pace of the series only from now on. He explained:

“The first Test of a five-match series in Australia is likely to start in early December, so it gives the Indians time to play a couple, if not more, first-class matches before the series. Rohit said after the defeat in Centurion that these games are not good because the host countries have second-rate teams and play on slow pitches. Even if that were true, isn’t it better to pick up the pace against such opposition than to stay home? Not only can batsmen get some runs under their belt, but pitchers can also push themselves and test themselves.”

India will tour Australia for a five-match Border Gavaskar series in December. The Rohit Sharma-led team won the series the last two times they traveled there.
