Former Indian batsman Deep Dasgupta shared his opinion on four teams that made it to the playoffs in the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Deep Dasgupta stated that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should not be overlooked despite their current position in the points table.

The race for the top four spots has intensified among the teams in the ongoing tournament. Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) occupy the top four positions in the table. Chennai Super Kings are fifth in the standings.

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team won and lost five games each. The Chennai-based team has 10 points in their tally with a net run rate (NRR) of +0.627. With the league expanding to ten teams, franchises have generally required a minimum of 16 points to secure a top-four finish after the league stage.

I’m not going to rule them out now – Deep Dasgupta

In a video shared by ESPNcricinfo on X (formerly known as Twitter), Deep Dasgupta was asked if RR, SRH, KKR and LSG made it to the playoffs. Dasgupta suggested that the CSK team should not be overlooked, considering his experience.

“Would it be safe to say that RR, SRH, KKR and LSG will be in the playoffs?” the presenter asks.

“Well, I don’t know. I mean, you asked this before the match too, right? And I have a feeling that CSK has all that experience. Yeah, I mean, I’m not going to tell them.” out now,” Profound Dasgupta said.

The Chennai Super Kings must win at least three of the remaining four matches to remain in contention for a playoff spot. If they win the remaining four league matches, the defending champions will ensure a top-four finish with 18 points on their account at the end of the league stage in IPL 2024.

The Super Kings must improve their net run rate to secure a top-four spot if several teams finish with 16 points. They will finish the league stage with 14 points if CSK lose two of their four remaining matches, reducing their chances of finishing in the top four to slim mathematical possibilities.

Chennai faced a seven-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their recent match. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the top scorer for the Super Kings, with 62 runs off 48 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Punjab chased down the target of 163 runs with 13 balls to spare at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
