Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq has been reported for a suspicious bowling action in progress PSL season. His action was objected to by Richard Illingworth and Asif Yaqoob on the field.
The incident occurred in the PSL 2024 match between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings. Karachi Kings secured the low-scoring match, but not before the player’s action was reported.
Meanwhile, the Gladiators management has requested the PCB to allow Usman to undertake a bowling action test which will be held under the board’s jurisdiction in due course.
Quetta Gladiators Management Requests PCB For Usman Tariq’s Test Bowling Action
“Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq was reported for a suspicious bowling action during the HBL PSL 9 match between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings on March 6 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
“Quetta Gladiators team management has requested PCB to allow Usman to undergo the bowling action test which will be conducted at a PCB approved facility in due course,” PCB said in an official press release.
The two umpires Richard Illingworth and Asif Yaqoob saw enough doubt in the player’s bowling action to report it. Shahid Hashmi, Pakistan’s senior sports journalist, explained the reason why his bowling action was reported. He said the pitcher’s pause in his pitching step before throwing the ball caused enough doubt in the umpires’ minds to report it as illegal.
He further explained that Tariq’s stock deliveries are the break, the leg break and the carrom ball. While he has several tricks up his sleeve, his pace and his pause are the two basic reasons why he has been informed of his action. The spinner has taken two wickets in the three matches he played.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings won the match against the chasing Gladiators. They chased down 119 in just 16 overs and won the match by seven wickets. The victory keeps their playoff hopes alive. The Gladiators, despite the defeat, are second in the points table.
Saud Shakeel scored 33 in Quetta Gladiators’ batting innings, which was the highest score in his batting effort. Hard-hitting opener Jason Roy scored just 15, while captain Rilee Rossouw scored just 10. Six Quetta Gladiators batsmen were dismissed for single-digit scores. Therefore, the lower order could not contribute anything substantial to the score.
The Kings’ batting effort was led by Tim Seifert, who scored 49 off 31 balls. 27 each from Shoaib Malik and James Vince also contributed to the team’s victory. Hasan Ali’s four-wicket spell earlier brought Quetta’s batting effort to its knees. He was also announced as the Man of the Match for his efforts.
“We all know that the conditions here are not suitable for fast bowling, I firmly believe that if you bowl the right line and length then you can be successful. As a bowling unit we talk about getting early wickets and bowling in the right areas, luckily we won the toss today. I am happy with my performances, as long as the captain has given me the ball that I have delivered. I have been working very hard for the last two months. “We have a newborn baby at home and I want to dedicate my award to her,” Hasan Ali said in the post-match presentation.
The PSL 2024 table is already taking shape for the playoffs. Multan Sultans top the table with 12 points, followed by Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi with nine each. Islamabad United have seven points, Karachi Kings six and defending champions Lahore Qalandars finally picked up some points with their win over Islamabad.
