Indian captain Rohit Sharma is all set to overtake Sourav Ganguly in the list of top records of the Indian national cricket team. The opening batsman is just 156 runs away from overtaking the former captain and becoming the team’s fourth highest run-scorer in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma will have a great chance to achieve the feat in the upcoming five-match Test series against England. The series between the teams will be played from March 25 to 11 at five different venues in India.

Rohit Sharma currently has 18420 runs to his name in 467 games. He has been an incredible servant to the Indian cricket team in all three formats of the game. The leadoff hitter has been the backbone of the team for over a decade and is still going strong.

Over the years, Rohit has not only become one of the greats of Indian cricket but also holds a prominent place in world cricket. Since he started opening in 2013 in white-ball cricket, he has been a different beast and has led India to many famous victories.

After taking the top spot in white-ball cricket, Rohit Sharma was given the same role in Tests and hasn’t looked back since. He has become one of the best openers in world cricket, scoring a ton of runs with incredible consistency across all three formats of the game.

The upcoming Test series against England will be a great opportunity for Rohit Sharma to define his greatness. He will be the captain of the team in the series and a lot will also depend on him as the team will want him to give good starts and lead them to dominant positions.

Rohit would hope to surpass Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 18,575 international runs in the series. If he does so, he will have Rahul Dravid (24,208), Virat Kohli (26,733) and Sachin Tendulkar (34,357) ahead of him on India’s run-scoring list.

Rohit Sharma will need to use his bowlers smartly – Sunil Gavaskar

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar recently made a big claim ahead of the Test series against England. He said that captain Rohit Sharma will have to use the players with intelligence from him.

Gavaskar also highlighted Rohit Sharma’s century against England during the last series and said that if the batsman bats similarly then the team will be off to a good start. He added:

“As captain, Rohit Sharma will need to use his bowlers wisely. Usually in Hyderabad, there is not enough supply of innings, so if England bat first and start successfully until lunch, there we will have to see how they use their players to judge it.

“Rohit Sharma scored a tremendous century against England in the Chennai Test during the previous series at home. He showed how to hit a pitch that favors spin. If he bats similarly, team India will be off to a good start. He also makes the job of the number 3 and 4 hitters easier.”

Rohit Sharma would hope to make a big impact in the series as both captain and batsman.
