Rajasthan Royals pacer Trent Boult gave his team a good start with the ball on Monday (April 22) in the ongoing match against Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first. However, Mumbai Indians were quick to regret the decision. Trent Boult dismissed the in-form Rohit Sharma for six runs in the first over. The Indian captain tried to take an aggressive shot at an incoming delivery and ended up missing. Goalkeeper Sanju Samson made no mistake in catching the ball.

The wicket in the first over saw Trent Boult add another feather to his cap. The New Zealand pacer now holds the record for picking the most wickets in the first over of a match in the IPL. The record was previously held by Sunrisers Hyderabad star Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

While Bhuvneshwar got a wicket in the first over more than 25 times, Trent Boult has now done it 26 times. He and Bhuvneshwar are the only players to have done it 20 or more times. Former India pacer Praveen Kumar is third on the list, followed by Trent Boult’s Rajasthan Royals teammate Sandeep Sharma.

Most first wickets in IPL:

  • 26 – Trent Boult
  • 25 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar
  • 15 – Praveen Kumar
  • 13 – Sandeep Sharma

Trent Boult had also dismissed Rohit Sharma in the first over earlier this season when Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals faced off at the Wankhede Stadium. On that occasion, the left-arm pacer had dismissed Rohit and Naman Dhir for golden ducks in the first over. Later, in his second over, he had also returned Dewald Brevis for a golden duck. Rajasthan Royals won the game by six wickets.

Rajasthan Royals on top:

Talking about the ongoing game, Rajasthan Royals are firmly in the driving seat. After Rohit’s dismissal, Sandeep Sharma scored two goals. He first dismissed Ishan Kishan for a duck in the second over before sending back Suryakumar Yadav for 10 to leave Mumbai reeling at 20 for 3 in the fourth over.

At the time of writing this report, Mumbai Indians were 47 for 3 in the seventh over with Tilak Varma and Mohammad Nabi batting in the middle.
