Yuzvendra Chahal, on Monday (April 22), created history by becoming the first bowler to take 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The player achieved the incredible feat during the match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
The Indian star needed just one wicket to enter the 200-wicket club and he didn’t have to wait long. He struck in his first over to get his 200th IPL wicket. On the third ball of the eighth over, Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed a well-placed Mohammad Nabi to put the Royals in the driver’s seat.
It was a botched delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal and Nabi ended up returning it to the bowler. The Royals spearhead made no mistake in making the catch and celebrated the milestone in style. He raised both hands in the air while he was sitting on his knees before being harassed by his teammates.
First bowler in IPL history to take 200 wickets! 🙌

Yuzvendra Chahal’s journey to IPL:
Yuzvendra Chahal started his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians back in 2011. He stayed with Mumbai Indians for three seasons but managed to play only one match. In 2014, Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed him up and he didn’t look back after that.
He went on to become one of the best spinners in the IPL and also became a key member of India’s limited overs teams. He plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2014 to 2021 and remains their main wicket-taker. In 113 games for the Bengaluru-based team, Yuzvendra Chahal took 139 wickets. No other bowler has managed to reach 100 wickets for the franchise so far.
In 2022, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals and has been a key member of the team since then. In less than three seasons, he has become Rajasthan Royals’ third-highest wicket-taker in the IPL. He has so far taken 61 wickets for the Royals, just six behind pacesetter Shane Watson. Chahal will look to break Watson’s record in the current season.
