Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan has led the Kings of Punjab from the front in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 so far. While he has lost his place in the Indian team and has not played international cricket for over a year, the left-hander has shown that he still has a lot to offer as a batsman.

In the first game, he scored 22 quick runs against Delhi Capitals and helped his team win the game. In the second game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Shikhar Dhawan scored the highest score for his team, although he could not lead it to victory. He scored 45 runs and PBKS lost the game by four wickets.

With PBKS looking to bounce back and get back to winning ways in the ongoing game against Lucknow Super Giants, their talismanic captain has led them from the front once again. PBKS needed a good start after Lucknow Super Giants posted a grand total of 199 for 8 and their captain did not disappoint.

Shikhar Dhawan is equal to Virat Kohli:

Shikhar Dhawan scored a brilliant half-century and shared a century-plus stand with his opening partner Jonny Bairstow for the first wicket. He and the England star added 102 runs in just 70 balls before the latter was dismissed by Mayank Yadav.

The half-century has also helped Shikhar Dhawan equal Virat Kohli in an elite list. The veteran opener is now second in the list of players with most scores of 50 or more. He and Kohli have scored 23 half-centuries while chasing in the IPL.

The list is headed by David Warner, who plies his trade for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2024. KL Rahul is at the fourth position with 21 half-centuries, followed by Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma.

Highest score of 50+ in IPL chases

  • 35 – David Warner
  • 23 – Shikhar Dhawan
  • 23 – Virat Kohli
  • 21 – KL Rahul
  • 20 – Gautama Gambhir
  • 18 – Rohit Sharma

At the time of writing this report, Dhawan was unbeaten on 67 off 45 balls. He will look to make the most of the blow and lead PBKS to their second win of the season.
