India moves towards a big lead against England in the second Test of the five-match series at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam (Vizag) and youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill dominated the batting department in this Test. Former India opener Virender Sehwag believes that these two youngsters will dominate world cricket in the coming years.

India won the toss and elected to bat first in Vizag and the first innings was a spectacle by Yashasvi Jaiswal as she lit up the stage and scored her first double century in Test cricket with 209 off 290 deliveries. Jaiswal’s innings included 19 fours and seven sixes and he scored more than half of the team’s total. India were out after scoring 396 in the first innings and England, in response, were smashed by Jasprit Bumrah, who took a six fer and helped India defeat England for just 253.

In the second innings, India lost the openers early but Shubman Gill partnered Shreyas Iyer and then Axar Patel to stabilize the Indian innings. Shubman Gill was under a lot of scrutiny after a poor run in Test cricket and was in desperate need of a resurgence. Gill smashed his third Test ton in the second innings as he scored 104 off 147 deliveries with 11 fours and two sixes. Both of them were India’s star in terms of batting and Virender Sehwag is pleased that this young group of players have made a name for themselves.

Virender Sehwag took to ‘X’ to acknowledge the innings played by both the youngsters and said that these two players will dominate world cricket in the next decade. His tweet said: “I’m glad to see two young people, both under 25, rising to the occasion and standing out. These two are very likely to dominate world cricket for the next decade and more.”

Shubman Gill smashed his first fifty-plus score while batting at No. 3 in Tests since winning the job in July 2023 against the West Indies. The 24-year-old batsman was opening the batting with Rohit Sharma before Yashasvi Jaiswal made his debut for India in Dominica. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century in his debut Test against the West Indies and has been excellent with the bat in terms of opening.

Both Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are under 25 years old and have scored a century in this match. The last time two Under-25 players scored a century for India in a Test match was in 1996 against England in Nottingham, when Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly scored a century in the same Test. India is yet to lose a Test series in India since 2012. However, the hosts lost the series opener against England in this five-match series and are looking to match it in this game in Vizag.
