He was previously suspected for his action after the series opener in Perth.

The Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) is currently tied 1-1 as the teams head into the Boxing Day decider in Melbourne. Ahead of the crucial clash, Indian talisman Jasprit Bumrah has been attacked by an Australian commentator for his bowling action.

Bumrah had previously been under the scanner after the series opener in Perth, where the speedster put up an exemplary bowling display, leading India to a 295-run victory. However, cricket experts dismissed these concerns and offered a detailed clarification of Bumrah’s bowling action.

Now, once again, speculation has been fueled, this time by veteran Australian sports commentator Ian Maurice.

He took to his social media account on

Maurice wrote in X: “Why has no one questioned the delivery of Indian pacer Bumrah? Isn’t that politically correct nowadays? I’m not saying he’s throwing but at least the position of the arm at the point of release should be analyzed. Nine would have had it under the microscope a few years ago.”

Why Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action is not considered illegal?

According to the rules, when the release arm is above vertical, the elbow should not bend more than 15 degrees. In Bumrah’s case, forward flexion of the arm is evident, which qualifies as hyperextension. This type of forward bend is allowed for people with hypermobile joints.

Hyperextension refers to a movement that aligns with the natural direction of movement, rather than downward or sideways. For this reason, Bumrah’s bowling action is considered legal as it complies with hypermobility guidelines.
