Ireland, on Tuesday (May 7), announced its squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The marquee event is scheduled to be played from June 1 to 29 in the United States of America and the Caribbean.

Ireland are in Group A with former winners India and Pakistan, and co-hosts the United States and Canada. Opening batsman Paul Stirling will lead the Irish team in the T20 World Cup. Along with the T20 World Cup squad, Ireland have also announced their squad for the T20 series against Pakistan in Dublin and the Tri-Series with Netherlands and Scotland in Voorburg.

The three squads have the same 14 players. For the T20 World Cup, left-arm pacer Josh Little has been added to the T20 World Cup squad. Little is currently in India, plying his trade with the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024.

“We have an intensive block of T20 cricket this month ahead of the T20 World Cup – we have seven games in 15 days in preparation for the tournament,” Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan said.

“We are not going to treat those seven games as warm-ups, but we will try to win as many games as possible.

“The team is one that we have gradually developed and tested over the last 18 months or so; the skills we need to cover are there, although we have allowed Josh [Little] continue in the IPL until his team finishes its campaign, so he will probably join us before the big tournament,” he added.

Ireland will open their ICC T20 World Cup campaign against India on June 5 in New York. The match against Canada will follow on June 7 before facing the United States and Pakistan on June 14 and 16 respectively.
