The Indian cricket team defeated its arch-rival Pakistan cricket team in the 19th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The Rohit Sharma-led team pulled out a victory out of nowhere by beating the Babar Azam-led team by six runs in their Group A clash of the prestigious T20 tournament.

The Indian team was bowled out for just 119 runs in 19 overs after being asked to bat first at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, June 9. The Indian bowlers made a sensational comeback to restrict the Pakistan team to 113 runs. for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Virat Kohli (4) was dismissed by Naseem Shah in the second over. Shaheen Afridi picked up the wicket of Rohit Sharma, who scored 13 runs off 12 balls, in the next over. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel tried to build the partnership after the first few wickets. The duo added 39 runs off 30 balls for the third wicket.

Naseem cleaned up Axar Patel (20) as he tried to struggle. Suryakumar Yadav failed to make an impact as he managed just seven runs. The Indian team fell from 87/3 to 119 in the second half of the innings. Naseem and Haris Rauf took three wickets each, while Mohammad Amir bagged two.

Pakistan scored 57 runs for the loss of a wicket at mid-wicket. Babar Azam scored 13 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. Pakistan were positioned as favorites to win the match. The win predictor indicated that Pakistan had a 92 percent chance of winning the match at any given time.

Pakistan scored 80 runs for the loss of three wickets in 14 overs. However, the game changed dramatically at the start of the 15th over when Jasprit Bumrah bowled Mohammad Rizwan with a long ball. Rizwan (31 off 44) attempted a wild shot across the line against the opposition team’s best bowler.

The Babar Azam-led team finished their innings with 113-7 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding for India in the low scoring match. The pacer put together a remarkable run of 4-0-14-3, which tipped the match in India’s favour. He earned his second consecutive “Man of the Match” award in the tournament.

In the post-match presentation, India captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged his team’s disappointing batting performance. He pointed out that they were in a decent position at 81 for three, but fell short by 15-20 runs.

“We didn’t bat well enough. At halfway, when we were batting, we were in a good position. We were 81 for three down. You expect guys to form partnerships. We were 15 to 20 runs short. We talked about it every race. is important in this field. We were thinking of 140, but still, the players came and did the job for us,” Rohit said.
