Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head was all praises for his opening partner Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2026. The duo, nicknamed ‘Travishek’ since they came together in IPL 2024, have been one of the best opening partnerships in IPL cricket today.
Head spoke on the sidelines of SRH’s victory over MI on April 29 when he described his working relationship with Abhishek and what makes them work well together. Head himself played an important knock of 76 as SRH posted the fourth-highest chase in IPL history.
He is one of the best in terms of hitting the ball against spin: Travis Head over Abhishek Sharma
Speaking to host broadcaster Star Sports after the match, Head said: “I know if there’s spin, I just hit it. I’ve probably never played with a better spin hitter. I think he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen in terms of hitting the ball against spin.”
“I know in the Powerplay we saw again in this game that teams started to lose pace against us. So, it’s about putting him on strike and watching him do his job. It puts teams under immense pressure. It’s a great partnership, we don’t have to talk too much.”
No player has scored more runs against spin in this year’s IPL than Abhishek Sharma. And no one has hit more sixes than him against the tweakers this year. Abhishek also leads the four against spin table in IPL 2026.
His strike rate against spin in this year’s IPL is the second best among all players who have faced at least 25 spin balls in the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma at IPL 2026
Abhishek is currently the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2026 with 425 runs in 9 matches at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 209.35. He has also made 3 fifties and centuries in the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma has also hit 31 sixes in this tournament, which is the second highest by any batsman. He is also one of the only two batsmen to hit 10 or more sixes in an innings this IPL season.
During his 135* against Delhi Capitals, he became the first Indian batsman to score 10 or more sixes in an IPL innings more than once, and also the first player in IPL history with multiple scores of 130 or more. Abhishek Sharma also leads the fours chart in IPL 2026 with 40 fours.
Sunrisers Hyderabad next match
SRH currently occupies 3rd place in the points table with 6 wins from 9 matches. Of the three teams that have 12 points each, SRH has the second-best net run rate.
After winning just one of their first four matches, SRH is currently on a five-match winning streak. Their next match is against a Kolkata Knight Riders team that is deeply in trouble. SRH will play KKR in a day match on May 3 in Hyderabad. The 2016 champions already beat the 2016 champions once in the previous tournament.
