After winning the match, Axar Patel did not arrive during the post-match presentation ceremony, KL Rahul came in and later in the post-match press conference, the team’s cricket director Venugopal Rao gave an update on Axar’s cramps and whether there was a serious injury during the match.

Venugopal Rao said: “Axar Patel has had a cramp, he will be ready for the next game. In the last game he played the role, Stubbs. We are lucky to have him. He was born and brought up here. He used all his experience, the kind of role we have given him, and he is fulfilling it. Birthday boy.”

The Phil Salt massacre in Bengaluru

DC won the toss and elected to play first; Both teams came into this game without making any changes from their last game. Both teams had been in good form in this edition of the tournament. The wicket was not 200+ being on the slower side and hence the RCB batsmen, despite getting off to a good start, failed to make it to the middle overs.

Virat Kohli and Phil Salt got off to a good start but the former was dismissed for 19 runs. Salt once again stepped up to the plate by scoring a brilliant half-century and playing a knock of 63 off 38 deliveries, on a pitch that was a bit sticky.

RCB had a collapse in the middle as they lost 5 wickets in the span of 50 runs. The defending champions then failed to advance in the match and the DC players restricted the home team to 175/8. Tim David was the aggressor, scoring 26 off 17 balls.

Stubbs and David Miller fire Delhi Capitals

Coming into the chase, DC were in trouble losing three wickets in just 18 runs, in the form of Pathum Nissanka, Karun Nair and Sameer Rizvi. Then KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs took over; the former scored fifty again at home and played 57 runs.

Then it was Stubbs and Axar Patel, as they piled on the runs, with Axar Patel abandoned due to cramps, and David Miller had redemption, scoring 22 off 10 balls and taking the match away from RCB, and he finished the game in style. Stubbs was awarded player of the match for his match-winning knock of 60.
