Former BCCI selector Chetan Sharma has backed opening batsman Virat Kohli to do well in the remaining two games of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He said his prediction that the batsman would score three tons in the series will come true as he will hit two more centuries.

Indian national cricket team batsman Virat Kohli has once again come under fire for his failures in Test cricket. The opener batsman started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on a high when he scored a magnificent century in Perth and looked like he would set the stage on fire.

Virat Kohli has managed just 26 runs after his century in Perth

However, after that century, his graph witnessed the downward line as the batsman failed to get going in the last two matches of the series. The outside line demons have come back to haunt him as he posted a series of low scores in the last four innings.

After Kohli scored a magnificent century in Perth, he was expected to have a great run. But it has been the exact opposite as he looked clueless in the last two matches, which took place in Adelaide and the Gabba.

After his 100-run knock in Perth, Kohli has managed just 26 runs, and this is certainly a serious concern for him with the series on the line. The batsman would want to turn things around in the last two games as his runs are the need of the hour for the Indian National Cricket Team.

Let’s hope he scores two more centuries in the next two matches – Chetan Sharma on Virat Kohli

Chetan Sharma, despite Kohli’s poor form, has come out in favor of the leading batsman to score runs in the last two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He batted for Kohli to score two more centuries in the last two matches, saying his prediction would come true. Speaking to ANI, he explained:

“He is a player who has achieved a lot for us, which raises our expectations. I am sure he will do well. Let’s hope that in the next two matches he scores two more centuries. Before the series I had predicted that he would score three centuries in Australia. “

Virat Kohli has struggled to get going with the bat in 2024

Overall, 2024 has not been a great year for Virat Kohli at all. In the 9 games he has played so far, the opening batsman has amassed 376 runs at an average of 25.06, with his highest score being 100 not out. In this WTC cycle, he has scored 687 runs in 12 matches, with an average of 36.15, with two centuries and three fifties.

The numbers suggest that Virat Kohli has not been at his best in Tests. However, they will get a golden opportunity to turn things around in the last two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which will be played at MCG and SCG.
