The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match number 20, was between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). During the second innings of the game, RCB’s star batsman Virat Kohli was seen off the field. Everyone knew he was out because of the impact player rule.
However, Cricbuzz reported that Virat Kohli is out of the field due to an ankle problem. It will be a huge blow for the defending champions in case Kohli is ruled out of the tournament; however, the extent of the injury is still unknown. The RCB management will be hopeful that nothing serious happens to their star batsman.
Virat Kohli out of IPL?
Virat Kohli was reported to be battling fever but still stood tall for his team during the MI vs RCB match. He played the role of presenter during the inaugural grandstand with Phil Salt. Kohli scored 50 off 38 balls during the match. He became frustrated after leaving and also threw his gloves and helmet near the dugout.
Virat Kohli did not take the field during the MI vs RCB clash which was shocking for everyone as the former India captain is a live wire on the field and always gives his 100% and aggressive celebrations when a wicket falls. He is now sitting in the locker room watching the match as he was replaced by Suyash Sharma as the impact player.
Virat Kohli sets a new record against MI
Kohli has adopted a new style of playing cricket after retiring from T20Is; has been more aggressive than an anchor. However, sometimes when required, he plays the anchor role very well in IPL matches. Kohli, at 37, became the first batsman to accumulate 1,000 runs against the five-time champions.
Kohli scored 1,030 runs against MI in 36 innings, at an average of 32.18 and a strike rate of 129.23, including 92 unbeatens and seven half-centuries.
