Kyle Mayers catch

All-rounder Kyle Mayers put on an impressive athletic display on the field during the fifth match of the 2024 Caribbean Premier League between St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St. Lucia Kings.

During the second ball of the fourth over of the match, when the St. Lucia Kings were batting, Kings captain Faf du Plessis walked up to fast bowler Anrich Nortje and attempted to hit the ball over mid-wicket, but the ball hit the top of his bat and went over mid-wicket.

Kyle Mayers, who was in the middle of the wicket, ran back and managed to complete a stunning catch just over his right shoulder to dismiss Faf du Plessis for just 2 runs. It was a magnificent display of athleticism from the West Indies all-rounder.

Kyle Mayers also had an excellent day with bat and ball. At the start of the first innings of the match, he scored a brilliant 92 off 62 balls, which included 6 fours and 7 sixes.

The left-hander formed a massive 199-run partnership with opener Evin Lewis to lead the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots to a score of over 200.

Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers form a marathon duo

Earlier, St. Lucia Kings won the coin toss and elected to play first. The Patriots lost Andre Fletcher early in the game to a superb play by Ackeem Auguste. But Mayers came in at No. 3 and formed a marathon duo with Evin Lewis.

Both batsmen continued to attack the bowlers as none of the St. Lucia Kings bowlers apart from Noor Ahmad could create an impact. Rain came during the latter part of the innings but play resumed soon after without the loss of any over.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots finished on a 201-3 scoreline in 20 overs. Evin Lewis scored a brilliant century as he finished unbeaten on 100 off 54 balls, with 7 fours and 9 sixes, while Mayers was dismissed in the final over.

St. Lucia Kings pull off a surprise win

Chasing a daunting target, the Kings got off to the worst possible start as they lost their first four wickets for just 24 runs. Kyle Mayers shone again with the new ball as he picked up 2 wickets in front.

But Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Tim Seifert had other ideas. Seifert was the more attacking of the two, scoring 64 off 27 balls, with 4 fours and 6 sixes. He was dismissed in the 11th over of the match, but by then he had done his job.

David Wiese added the finishing touches by scoring 34 points off 20 balls. Rajapaksa remained unbeaten with 68 points off 35 balls as the St. Lucia Kings pulled off a shock victory in Basseterre.

For the Patriots, Mayers and Nortje picked up two wickets each but failed to take their team over the line.
