Gujarat Titans (GT) players Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar recently spoke about their team’s victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2023. Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar played a crucial role in the team’s elimination RCB in the previous season.

The Gujarat-based franchise will begin its IPL 2024 campaign under the leadership of Shubman Gill. The Gujarat team will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in their opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad at 7:30 pm on Sunday, March 24.

Watch – Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar burst into laughter

In a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar were seen talking about their match-winning partnership against RCB in IPL 2023. Gill jokingly called it the “most hated partnership”, and both players laughed.

Shubman Gill led Titans to a remarkable six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the league stage match of IPL 2023. Shubman’s magnificent century dealt a heavy blow to RCB, ultimately leading to their elimination of the playoffs.

GT faced an early setback when Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed in the third over. However, Gill quickly found his rhythm. The opening batsman forged a 123-run winning partnership with Vijay Shankar for the second wicket, taking GT closer to their target.

Vijay Shankar scored 52 runs off 35 balls, including seven boundaries and two sixes. Vijaykumar Vyshak dismissed him in the 15th over. Meanwhile, Gill remained unbeaten on 104 runs off 52 balls, guiding GT to chase the target of 198 runs with 5 balls to spare.

Shubman Gill is really interested in doing the job – Gary Kirsten

GT batting coach Gary Kirsten spoke about new captain Shubman Gill’s prospects for IPL 2024. Kirsten acknowledged Gill’s determination but also anticipated challenges due to his limited leadership experience.

“I think the leadership role will be really important for him. I know he really wants to do the job and we as coaches need to help him and make sure he gets the best out of his players and leads the team appropriately like we want him to.” Gary Kirsten was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“He has enormous motivation and determination as an individual, something we have seen playing for India. But like any new leader, he is starting from scratch and will face some challenges along the way and we as coaches will have to help him along the way.” Kirsten added.

Shubman took over the captaincy of the Ahmedabad-based team following Hardik Pandya’s transfer to the Mumbai Indians last year. Hardik led the team to successful campaigns over the past two seasons, including a title win in 2022 followed by a runners-up finish in 2023.

The 24-year-old had an outstanding performance in IPL 2023. The batsman clinched the Orange Cap with a remarkable tally of 890 runs in 17 matches. Balancing his exceptional batting prowess with captaincy duties poses an intriguing challenge for him.
