Varun Chakravarthy takes stunner to dismiss Prithvi Shaw

While Varun Chakravarthy is not really known for his fielding, he took a brilliant diving catch to send back Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.

Prithvi Shaw and his opening partner David Warner had no option but to do a great job right from the start after KKR finished their innings with a mammoth total of 272/7. In the first over of the chase, Prithvi Shaw hit Mitchell Starc for two fours.

However, the right-handed batsman did not last long and had to retire in the second over after Varun Chakravarthy’s impressive catch. On the fourth ball of the over bowled by Vaibhav Arora, there was an appeal by LBW against Prithvi Shaw after the DC batsman was hit by an inswinger.

And in the next delivery, the India opener, who had fallen out of favour, had to return to the dressing room. Prithvi Shaw missed his shot towards the center against a delivery that came at the last moment. At first, it looked like the ball would fall just in front of Varun Chakravarthy. However, the KKR player dived and caught the ball just inches from the surface.

Prithvi Shaw departed after scoring 10 runs off seven balls. The right-handed batsman did not get any chance in the playing XI in the first two games of the season before DC recalled him after losing both games. In the first game of IPL 2024, he played a fine knock of 43 runs to help DC beat Chennai Super Kings and break the record in the tournament.

Speaking of the game in progress, Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s blistering knocks helped KKR post 272/7, their highest ever IPL score. Narine scored 85 off 39 balls, while 18-year-old Raghuvanshi scored 54 off just 27 balls. Andre Russell (41 off 19) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) also played crucial knocks for the two-time IPL winners.
