Watch: Virat Kohli channels inner MS Dhoni to run out Akila Dananjaya in IND vs SL 2nd ODI

Indian national cricket team superstar Virat Kohli put in an absolutely epic performance in the second ODI of the three-match series against the Sri Lanka national cricket team. The match between the two teams will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, August 4.

Virat Kohli is known for doing exceptional things on the field and he was fully prepared in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. The former India captain also showed his fun side when he did a Bihu dance while looking at Riyan Parag to celebrate the wicket of Sadeera Samarawickrama.

However, his finest moment came in the last over of the innings. On the last ball, Arshdeep Singh bowled a rather length delivery to Sri Lankan player Jeffrey Vandersay, who took it to midwicket and ran in for a single.

Indian fielder Rohit Sharma aimed for the stumps at the bowler’s end but missed. The ball landed at Virat Kohli, who picked it up and ran towards the stumps with the ball to knock it out of the baskets and run out Akila Dananjaya. The Sri Lankan player was back in the dugout after scoring 15 runs in 13 balls, with two fours.

It is noteworthy that many felt that the play performed by Virat Kohli was very similar to the one pulled off by Indian great MS Dhoni against Bangladesh in 2016.

In the end, the hosts put up a big total on the board. They scored 240 for 9 and almost all the batsmen contributed crucial runs.

How did India’s batsmen perform in the first ODI?

The Indian national cricket team’s batting squad put up a poor performance in the opening clash of the series on Friday. Almost all the batsmen of the visiting team started but none of them managed to register a big score, which ultimately cost India the game.

India restricted Sri Lanka to 230/8 and looked like they were going to complete the run chase. The confidence in the Indian dressing room grew even more after Rohit Sharma played his natural attacking style and led his team to a blistering start.

The Indian captain took the lead and scored a spectacular half-century. However, his opening partner Shubman Gill was too slow and managed only 16 off 35.

After the openers retired, many expected India’s strong middle order to hold on to the spot. However, that did not happen. Virat Kohli (24), Shreyas Iyer (23) and KL Rahul (31), all returning to the team after a long break, failed to score much.

Axar Patel (33) and Shivam Dube (25) batted well from the lower order and the latter remained in the middle till the end. But, with India needing a run with more than 2 overs remaining, Dube and Arshdeep Singh got out with consecutive deliveries and the match ended in a draw.
