The Gujarat Titans entered the Chinnaswamy Stadium hoping to get their campaign back on track after the tragic loss against the Mumbai Indians at their home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After having played six games this season, they have managed to win three games and have also lost the same number of games. Winning one here would have brought them level with the likes of RCB and SRH.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bengaluru would look to register a win when they play their final match in front of the home fans at their Chinnaswamy stadium. Their next two home matches are scheduled to be played in Raipur. Also, RCB are looking to bounce back after their winning streak was again interrupted by defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals.
RCB’s oldest cricketer has done it again as Virat Kohli led them to another brilliant chase at Chinnaswamy. He was once again awarded the player of the match award for his spectacular knock of 81 runs.
Sai Sudharsan’s brilliant century guides Gujarat titans to total of over 200
Gujarat Titans head to Chinnaswamy after their batsmen struggled to put up a show against Mumbai Indians at home. The entire team was dismissed with just 100 runs on the board, but this time, Sai Sudharsan had very different intentions from the beginning.
Despite getting off to a slow start, Sudharsan backed up his innings with some impressive shots, especially from the powerplay end, and made 128 runs for the first wicket alongside the captain.
Having scored a century, he was dismissed and let the middle-order batsmen carry him to a massive score. However, Washington Sundar struggled and Jason Holder was allowed to return much later at the back, leading to the Titans not managing more than 205 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
Virat Kohli’s fall costs Gujarat Titans the game
RCB were chasing the second-highest total in the history of the competition and they successfully ended it with a massive chase even in the absence of Phil Salt. Washington Sundar dropped Virat Kohli for a duck and never looked back.
With a century-long partnership and an astonishing scoring spree between Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, they took RCB to the brink of a big victory. Kohli became the master chaser he has always been throughout his career.
Kohli’s stunning knock, accompanied by a dominant display from Devdutt Padikkal and a finishing touch from Krunal Pandya, helped RCB chase their second-highest target in IPL history. This also became RCB’s 50th win at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
We had to assess the conditions from the beginning: Virat Kohli
“We had to assess the conditions from the beginning. We were just one partnership away. We wanted to try and analyse. Padikkal has done this twice this season. This is quite rare, to be honest. His innings was the clear difference. I was trying to be in the game. That partnership was the game-changer,” said Virat Kohli, who praised Padikkal’s impressive performance.
“Our bowlers did a magnificent job. The spinners couldn’t get the grip. Once you master the conditions, you support yourself. The message was very clear. We had to go for it. We had no doubt.
“Body language comes from belief. We have guys who can hurt the bowlers. We have the cricket intelligence of Krunal. You can see it in their bowling. The combination gives us a lot of confidence. We have the depth and confidence in the group,” he added.
“We were happy to play here, it is a special place to play cricket. It has been brilliant to play at home and win four matches. It has been a great start,” Virat Kohli said about the last match at Chinnaswamy.
