The West Indies hosts have put their faith in an uncapped spinner as they look to bounce back in the upcoming second and final Test against India after suffering a crushing defeat in the series opener.
The West Indies were no match for the Indian team as the visitors inflicted a humiliating innings defeat on the embattled home side in the first Test played at Windsor Park in Dominica. Batting first on Dominica’s slow and lazy track, the West Indies could only manage 150 runs in their first innings.

For India, their spinners starred with the ball as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up five and three wickets respectively. With the bat, India declared their innings at 421 for 5. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (171) and Rohit Sharma (103) led India’s charge with the bat.
The West Indies performance in the second innings was worse. Their batsmen had no answer against Ashwin’s turn as India bowled out the West Indies with just 130 runs to win the game by one innings and 141 runs. Ashwin picked up seven wickets in the second innings to take his match tally to 12 wickets.

Ahead of the second Test in Trinidad, the West Indies have called up Kevin Sinclair in their 13-man squad in place of the versatile Raymon Reifer. Reifer has taken on the hatchet after failing to do well with both bat and ball against India.

With the bat, Reifer recorded scores of just two and 11 while with the ball he was unable to pick up any wickets. The SUV, however, will travel to Trinidad with the West Indies squadron and can be used in case of any emergency.
Sinclair may not have played any tests so far, but he is not new to international cricket. The 23-year-old has already pled his trade for the West Indies in the cue ball format, having played seven ODIs and six T20Is thus far. He was part of the West Indies team that recently participated in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe.
West Indies expects Sinclair to perform well on his debut given the chance. In the first Test debutant Alick Athanaze was the best player for the home team and the West Indies expect something similar from Sinclair.
