Rajasthan Royals have been the center of controversies in this edition of the IPL, and now the BCCI has not clearly indicated that they will not let this slip away easily.
Rajasthan Royals started the season on a high note and won four season matches since the inception of the competition. They won the initial matches with notable dominance by their hitters.
However, once the batsmen, especially those in the middle order, began to struggle with the bat, the Royals lost their winning streak and continued losing games in a row. They are now stuck at 12 points after having played 10 games into the season.
Romi Bhinder’s humiliating incident at IPL 2026
Rajasthan Royals’ first controversy erupted at the start of the season during a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati.
During the clash, team manager Romi Bhinder was seen using his mobile phone while sitting on the bench with the players. He had young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi by his side, who was also seen looking at phone screens.
Bhinder’s violation was that he, as a coach, is allowed to enter the field with a phone but is not allowed to take it out of the locker room. He was then fined INR 1 lakh for rule violations by the BCCI.
Riyan Parag’s vaping incident against Punjab Kings
The following incident occurred between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings during their match at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. Parag was seen vaping inside the Rajasthan Royals dressing room, which was caught on camera.
Following the incident, the BCCI found him guilty and reprimanded him for a Level 1 offence, while fining him 25% of the match fees. He also received a demerit point for this misconduct, as it involved serious work indiscipline.
The BCCI has punished the two involved in the two incidents; However, they have not been able to punish the team. They have since been reprimanded and some protocols have been put in place.
Maintain some decorum: BCCI secretary slams Rajasthan Royals for indiscipline
On the sidelines of the women’s T20 World Cup team announcement, BCCI officials said they have been exploring options on how to punish teams that have violated IPL rules.
Since then, the BCCI secretary has been adamant that the image of the IPL can never be affected and hence action needs to be taken against such acts while some measures need to be put in place to maintain the decorum of the tournament.
“It is not just about players or officials. As a team, they have to maintain some decorum so that the image of the IPL is never negatively affected. To ensure that we have to take a call and we will take some steps,” Devajit Saikia said.
