Bangladesh cricket team suffered a knock just days before the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Player Aliss Al Islam was ruled out of the entire series due to the finger injury he recently faced.

Aliss Al Islam suffered a finger injury during the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) while representing Comilla Victorians. He was expected to be fit for the T20I series against Bangladesh, but his injury seemed to be much worse than expected.

Team physio Bayjedul Islam provided an update on Aliss Al Islam’s physical condition and said he underwent an MRI which revealed a joint ligament sprain and swelling in his finger. The out of order will take two to three weeks to recover. In an official statement, he explained (quoted by Cricbuzz):

“Aliss underwent an MRI, which confirmed a sprain and swelling of the MCP joint ligament of the right middle finger. It is estimated that her recovery will take between two and three weeks, so she will be left out of the series.”

The Bangladesh cricket team immediately announced the replacement of Aliss Al Islam. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jaker Ali Anik will join the team for the three-match series against Sri Lanka. He was chosen for the team for the fun performances of him in BPL 2024.

Bangladesh selection committee chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain spoke about the selection of Jaker Ali Anik and said that picking the wicketkeeper-batsman would strengthen the team’s middle order. He said that instead of adding a spinner to the team they wanted to get a batsman. He added:

“Apart from Aliss, we have three other frontline players in Rishad (Hossain), Taijul (Islam) and Shak Mahedi (Hasan) in the T20 team. “We believe that rather than adding another player to replace Aliss, the balance of the team would be better off including someone like Jaker Ali, who can bolster the middle or lower-middle order and serve as a finisher.”

Jaker Ali Anik was impressive in BPL 2024 for Comilla Victorians. He managed 199 runs at an average of 99.5 and a strike rate of 141. He would also like to continue his impressive run with the national team.
