Cameron Green betrayed by Australia’s World Cup-winning captain as KKR exit demanded

Winning and losing are part of cricket. A team’s performance is what matters most. Apart from the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsmen showed no intent as they chased a total. The team has firepower and depth in their batting, but the result is simply unacceptable.

Against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), KKR made some changes to their batting order, promoting Sunil Narine at the top spot and pushing Cameron Green deeper into the order. Former Australia captain Aaron Finch said promoting Narine to the top spot was a positive move by the team, but they had also made multiple questionable decisions.

Aaron Finch raised questions against KKR

The bowling schedule of the Riders of the Knights of Calcutta did well in the slog overs by restricting CSK to 192 runs. Sunil Narine, Kartik Tyagi and Anukul Roy bowled some crucial overs.

The current IPL season has witnessed multiple high-scoring matches. The target of 193 could be chased at the Chepauk cricket ground. But KKR once again left the field as a defeated group.

“It certainly wasn’t pretty. There were a lot of question marks over KKR, particularly in that chase. Some of their tactics were very questionable. We commend Sunil Narine’s decision to go to the top of the order. It didn’t go well today [24 in 17 balls]but it was something different. At least they tried,” Aaron Finch said on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show.

The partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi lacked aggressiveness.

Following the dismissals of the KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi put together a 50-plus run partnership in the middle but that did not help the team in the run chase. They claimed the runs and forged a much-needed partnership, but both batsmen lacked the aggression they needed to show.

“But some of the other decisions were a bit strange. And they were never in the hunt. We talked about Rahane and Raghuvanshi batting together, about how that can be a hindrance.” [factor]. And their partnership wasn’t bad, but there’s still no point of difference in that partnership. They don’t bowl. They don’t get to a point where the opposing captain has to make serious decisions about reorganizing his team,” the former Australian opener said.

Aaron Finch demands Cameron Green’s sacking

Cameron Greenwho is a natural top-notch hitter, surprisingly went to bat as the number 6 in the lineup and quickly returned with a golden duck. Finch stated that Green is a top-order designated hitter, pushing him down the batting order would not work for the team. According to statistics, Green has batted only nine times with that number out of the 68 times he has batted in T20. The last time he acted as the number 6 hitter was in 2024.

“When you have that much experience in that dugout, you think they would at least be making the right decisions at the right time. For Cameron Green, batting at number 6, that’s an unusual position for him. I don’t think he’s done that much in T20 cricket,” opined Aaron Finch.

“You’ve got Seifert sitting in the wings, he’s a specialist opener. Cameron Green hasn’t played a huge amount of T20 cricket. [recently, because of injuries]. So you have a guy there who brings a good skill set and very good form in Seifert, who comes from a good [T20] World Cup. “Who has the scoops, has the ramps, has a lot of different options.”
