EX-CSK spinner warns Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir to handle Vaibhav Sooryavanshi carefully

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is having a brilliant TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He has been the leading run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and fifth overall in the orange cap with 254 runs in 7 innings. He has been one of the best finds in Indian cricket. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been impressive with his fearless approach.

However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is still 15 years old and has plenty of time left; you need to focus on your cricketing ability. The left-hander will soon make his debut for the Indian national cricket team, if he continues to impress in the IPL. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the Player of the Tournament at the U-19 World Cup for his exceptional performance.

Harbhajan Singh warns India about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Ahead of RR’s upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), former India player Harbhajan Singh has warned the Men in Blue management to take a measured approach with the teenage batsman. The legendary spinner gave importance to taking care of him carefully if he wants to become a Test player.

Bhajji pointed out that young players will go through a rough patch in their lives and will have to adapt according to the conditions and format of the game.

It’s all about the mindset-Harbhajan Singh

“With time they will learn, even through the ups and downs. But if a 15-year-old can hit the ball, he can also block. It’s about mentality; if you give him a chance, he will adapt to that,” Harbhajan said during a Legends Club event to celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s 53rd birthday.

The former CSK player warned the management that youngsters do not adapt too early to harsh conditions abroad, especially in places like England where swinging can be a difficult time. “But if you send him to England for a first tour where the ball will swing, it will not be a question of intelligence. If we want him to play Test cricket, we will have to educate him,” Harbhajan added.

I would make a strong recommendation to try cricket: Harbhajan Singh

EX-CSK also focused on the overall structure of the game in India, emphasizing the need to prioritize Test cricket and create sporting windows that allow matches to take place over the full five days. He stated that balanced surfaces would not only test the batsman.

“I would make a strong recommendation that Test cricket should be the priority because that is where the best cricket and the best cricketers are found. In Test cricket, you can see the best competition as it lasts for five days and every day, the challenge becomes different,” he said.

“Obviously, there’s a lot going on in the field and as a result people need to change their mindset, adapt to those conditions and come out on top.”

They will have to make a place for themselves: Bhajji on the temperament of playing Test cricket

He also stated that young batsmen like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre will need to develop the necessary temperament for red-ball cricket, citing Yashasvi Jaiswal as an example among the current generation.

“They (future batsmen) will have to make a place for themselves and of course create enough buzz so that they are good enough to be in the Test cricket team,” he added.
