Hardik releases official update on Rohit Sharma’s return in IPL 2026

In the 41st match, between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. During the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya gave a big update on the team’s former captain Rohit Sharma, who is suffering from a hamstring injury that he sustained in the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Hardik Pandya, during the toss, said that Rohit Sharma will need a couple more games to regain his full form. Earlier, it was mentioned in yesterday’s press conference that a decision on Rohit Sharma would be taken during the toss, and the updated decision came from the franchise captain.

Rohit will need a couple more games: Hardik Pandya on Rohit Sharma’s injury

Hardik said: “Rohit will need a couple more games. He’s been trying, he’s not exactly up to the standard I’d like him to be, so he’s not available for the team. Absolutely (in his form). We just want to go out and play the best cricket I know as well. That will definitely help the group and the team.”

Quinton de Kock replaced him in the team and Rohit Sharma has missed the last three matches for the Mumbai team. However, the former will also miss out today due to a wrist injury as Ryan Rickelton will replace him in the squad tonight.

Rohit Sharma scored 137 runs in four innings in IPL 2026. He scored a fifty in the first game of the IPL and looked in excellent form, but the injury was a setback to his form. Although he has hit the nets and is batting well, he has not been 100% prepared.

Normally the score is quite high – Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins’ SRH also made two changes to the side. During the toss, he said: “It looks like there might be a bit of a bad taste on the wicket, very happy (to bowl first). I think you have to reset your expectations every game.”

“Normally you get pretty high scores, so try to execute your skills, don’t think about it too much. You know, this pitch might ask you something different in this game, and just go with a clear mind. Harsh Dubey replaces Shivang Kumar. Hopefully they trust what I’m saying because I’m out there bowling, so, you know, I obviously pick up information when I’m bowling on the field.”
