India head coach Rahul Dravid had big reservations for opener Shubman Gill ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final: India and Australia meet in the WTC final from June 7-11.
Ahead of the grand final, Rahul Dravid praised the young Indian debutant and reflected on his journey with the Indian cricket team thus far.

Gill made his Test debut against Australia in 2020 in the previous wtc cycle. Since then, he has greatly improved as a hitter and is now a mainstay of hitting in all formats. He had a brilliant 2022 where he adds centuries in all formats.

IPL 2023 saw him transform his game to another level. He scored 890 runs in the season and showed immense consistency and maturity as a cricketer. Heading into the WTC final, he is one of the biggest bat-wielding hopes for Team India.

Dravid in a conversation with Star Sports, talked about the WTC final. He spoke about the importance of this final and the beauty of playing Test Cricket in England.

England Test Cricket Always Special: Rahul Dravid
“Really exciting for all the players to play this game again. There is a lot of work that goes into this match. You play two years and many test series and results must go your way. The chance to play this game is certainly well deserved. Test cricket in England is always special and has great meaning.” Dravid said.
He then focused on Shubman Gill’s transformation as a cricketer, saying that he has always been a superstar and is still finding his place in international cricket.

“Shubman has always been a star player. He has been a class player when I saw him since his Under-19 days. He reached the U-19 World Cup and was already marked as someone who would become a very special player. He’s been great, he’s had a few years with the team, he’s been in and out of the side a bit, and he’s finding his place in international cricket.” Dravid concluded by saying.
