Australia Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins recently revealed the one thing he hasn’t scored in his cricket career.
Pat Cummins said he is yet to secure a victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series against the Indian team, even though some of his teammates have done so.
Australia last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during the 2014-15 series. India have won the trophy in four consecutive series, including two in Australia.
However, they managed to defeat India in the final of the 2023 World Test Championship. They also beat India in the final clash of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Some guys have done it, but I haven’t – Pat Cummins
Speaking during an event, Pat Cummins said that winning a Test series against India is one of the few achievements he is yet to achieve. He added that he has so far failed to secure a victory in the series against India.
“I was thinking about it the other day. It’s about the only thing I haven’t really scored. I haven’t beaten India in a Test series yet. Some of the guys have, but I haven’t.” Cummins said during an event, quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Pat Cummins has taken 50 wickets against India in Tests
Cummins will lead Australia in a five-match Test series against India starting November 22. He has captained Australia in three Test matches against India.
The 31-year-old pacer has guided the team to victory in just one match, which was the crucial final of the ICC World Test Championship at The Oval in 2023.
Pat played his first Test match against India in 2017, where Australia suffered a defeat in a closely contested tie.
He has been impressive in the last two home series against India, especially taking 21 wickets in four Tests in the 2020-21 series. In total, he took 50 wickets in 13 Tests against India.
Do I want to try and replicate others? -Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins spoke about his experience taking on the role of captain after being appointed at the end of 2021. Cummins highlighted that he admires previous Australian captains but realized the need to be himself.
“My whole life, you look up to the Australian captain and you know who he is, and you think, ‘Oh wow, they’re so successful and they must have all their stuff together. And suddenly, when you’re captain,’ you go, ‘Oh, I’m going to be that kind of person. In the initial stages, it was great to have a lot of support, and those who had to make the decision chose me and thought I was ready for it.’
“So I thought, ‘Okay, do I want to try to replicate other people or do I just want to be myself?’ “And I always thought I should be myself because that’s all I really know,” he added.
