Australian cricketer Alyssa Healy, wife of Mitchell Starc, spoke about how her husband got the highest bid in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction. She said it was an incredible moment and it was a justification for the arduous work he had done.
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc broke all records in the IPL 2024 auction. He became the highest-paid player in the history of the league after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquired him for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore .
First up in the auction was Pat Cummins, who became the most expensive player in the league when he was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.5 crore. However, within an hour, Mitchell Starc broke his record and had teams going crazy after him.
Mitchell Starc has not played in the league since 2015 as he put his nation first and opted out of the tournament. This time he registered and made sure to make up for all the money he lost in the last few years by not registering for the IPL.
Mitchell Starc, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, was informed by his wife Alyssa Healy about the huge amount of money he got in the auction. The Australian cricketer was asked about her feelings after her husband broke the record.
Alyssa Healy revealed that she was in the gym when KKR brought in Mitchell Starc. She said it was a wonderful day for Pat Cummins and her husband. She stated (quoted by TOI):
“It is what it is. It’s an incredible moment for Mitch, it’s a great vindication for the hard work he’s put in and (for) probably some of the decisions he’s made over the last eight years to put his country first.
“I was in the gym. She wasn’t thinking about beers, according to social media. In fact, she was in the gym working hard, watching it all unfold. But yeah, it was an amazing day for him and Pat (Cummins).”

Mitchell Starc expressed his joy on being picked up by KKR for INR 24.75 crore. He said that he was shocked after seeing teams betting on him and that he is excited to join the Shreyas Iyer-led team. He told Star Sports:
“I’m not sure any words do it justice, really. Alyssa was there with the Australian team at the time, so her coverage was slightly ahead of mine here in Australia. So she saw the numbers before I did, so I was getting the updates through her. But yeah, a little bit of shock and certainly excitement at how it was all unfolding. But nothing she had ever imagined. I am very excited to join KKR.
“It’s been a long time since I played in IPL in 2014 and 2015 and I’ve obviously played quite a bit of cricket since then. Hopefully, I can also bring KKR and play my role there. And I think being able to bowl at different stages is something that has remained strong throughout.
Mitchell Starc has played 27 matches in the IPL and has taken 34 wickets with an economy and average of 7.17 and 20.38. The pacer has the best bowling figures of 4/15 in the league.
